Objectives: at the end of session students should be able to Knowledge Define adjectives Identify adjectives Skill Recognize and find adjectives in sentences Attitude Show willingness to use adjectives correctly to describe nouns.
Previous Knowledge Students are able to describe objects from previous subjects area
Instructional Materials Objects around the classroom (window, charts, cup, etc,) Pictures
Introduction Present students with pictures. Tell students that they are to look at the pictures carefully and then give words that can be used to describe the pictures. Note students responses on chalkboard. Have students read their responses aloud. Development Step1 Elicit from students the special name that is given to words that were used to describe the pictures. Expected Response: Adjectives Have students read the definition of adjectives aloud. Adjectives – words that are used to describe a noun or pronoun.
Step 2 Write a few words on chalkboard. Have students read words aloud. Example of words: Pink bone have pretty fat Have individual students circle the words/adjectives on chalkboard that can be used to describe something or someone. Have students used adjectives in sentences orally. Note a few examples on chalkboard and have students read.
Step 3 Remind students of what adjectives do by eliciting the definition of adjectives. Present students with a few sentences or phrases on chalkboard. Have students read sentences aloud. Elicit from students the adjectives that are used in each sentence and the name of the noun that the adjective is describing. Discuss answers with students. Example of Sentences: 1. The old man has a red hat. Adjectives: old red Noun: man hat Question students about the adjectives. Example: What does red tell you? 2. Some golden sand. 3. She has a pretty dress.
Step 4 Have students select an object from around the classroom and give an adjective that can be used to describe that object.
Closure Review definition of an adjective and examples of adjectives.
Application Circle the adjective that describes each noun. 1. A windy day 2. A tiny baby 3. The heavy rock 4. A new shirt 5. The old lady 6. A beautiful hat
