Grade: Kindergarten
Subject: Language Arts
Area: Phonics
Topic: Consonant letter “Dd”
Subtopic: Initial “Dd” sound
Ages: 5-6
Ability: Mixed
No. of students: 6 boys 8 girls
Duration: 9:00am-10:15am
Approach: Integrated
Materials:
Set of 4x6 index cards with Pictures, worksheets, Interactive Smart Board, projector, Laptop, crayons
Previous Knowledge:
students know how to write the letter “d” in common and capital.
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
1. Identify the first letter of the word that names a picture
shown by the teacher.
2. Identify and say sound heard using the Interactive Smart
Board.
3. Give the name of the letter that they have touch using the
Interactive Smart Board.
4. Give at least three (3) things that have the initial “Dd” sound.
This will be done orally.
5. Correctly colour pictures that start with the letter “Dd” using
the worksheets that will be provided.
Introduction:
Let each student pick a card. Place one card on the white board. Explain to the students that when they have a picture that begins with the letter “Dd” and is the same as one of the pictures on the board they should raise their hand. Call on one of those students to tape their card on the board so the matching pictures are touching. Continue until all the students have had a turn.
Developmental Procedure:
Step 1: Teacher will then turn on the Interactive Smart Board and
have students listen and
observe firstly to a cartoon activity “listen and say the
letter with me” after which
students will have the opportunity to say the letter and
also give the sound of the letter “Dd”
Step 2: Students will then go to the Interactive Smart Board and
touch the letter “Dd”; if they touch the incorrect letter the
Smart Board will say to them “Ooops try again” Students
will then give the name of the letter they have touch
correctly or incorrectly but keeping their focus on the
letter “Dd”
Step 3: Have students give (orally) at least three (3) things that
have initial “Dd” sound.
Closure: Students will recap lesson using the Interactive Smart
Board. Students will go to the board and move the word
beginning with the letter “Dd” closer to it’s picture by
dragging it.
Application: Students will correctly complete worksheet by
colouring the picture that start with
the letter “Dd”
