Topic: Describing Experiences
Objectives: At the end of the lesson students should be able to-
-explain the experience of being in Basseterre during the Christmas
season
-use appropriate adjectives to express their ideas and experiences
Precious Knowledge:
-Students have been introduced to adjectives or describing words and they understand that these words are used to describe people, events, places and generally nouns and student are competent with the basic computer skills needed for this activity.
-Most students are familiar with the atmosphere in Basseterre during the Christmas season.
Materials: video clips of Basseterre during the Christmas season, chalk, blackboard, whiteboard, computer and video about adjectives.
Presentation:
The teacher would present video clips to the class and ask students to look carefully at the clips and imagine themselves as one of the many persons in the videos.
Step one:
The teacher would ask students to tell her of some words that they would user to describe what was happening in the videos. She would also ask them to describe the things they saw, then things the smelled and the things they felt while they were in the videos.
The teacher would ask for the students who volunteer their ideas to come and write those ideas on the chalkboard.
Step two:
The teacher would then ask the students to tell her the special name given to words that we use to describe nouns. The students would give their answers and she would write the word "adjectives on the board. She would then play another video clip where children are asked to identify the adjectives in sentences that appear on the white board. the teacher would pause the video response and have students come to the board and highlight the word using the mouse. After the student highlight what they believe to be the correct answer the teacher would then let the computer proceed to display the correct answer. This would be repeated for eight sentences.
Step Three:
The teacher would ask student to each write six sentences based on their experience during their time in the video. She would move around the classroom so that she can identify those students who may need support and extend that support. After the students completes this activity they teacher would have students share with the class their sentences.
Application:
The teacher would ask students to begin to write their paragraph about "My Christmas in Basseterre". She would also instruct the students to use only those six sentences that they wrote in their books. Again she would move around the classroom lending her support.
