Objectives:
At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
1. classify objects using the senses.
Teaching Material:
Shapes cut out from different coloured construction papers, perfume, air freshner, apple, piano, bell, muscial book, harmonia, sugar, lime, teddy bear, cotton, sthingy, flowers, stone
Introduction:
Teacher will recite poem;
Two little eyes for seeing
Two little ears for hearing
One little nose for smelling
One little tongue for tasting
Two little hands and feet
God gave them to me.
Teacher will elicit from studnets what the poem is about. Teacher will record studnets' answers on the chalkboard.
Developmental Activities:
Step 1
Teacher will have students in groups of four. Two of the groups will have five. Teacher will give each group various regular and irregular shapes cut out from different colours of construction paper. different size of shapes will be provided. Have studnets sort the pieces of shapes into groups and state the criterion on which the shapes were sorted. Have studnets repeat the activity using different criterion.
Step 2
Teacher will explain to studnets that there are five stations around the classroom with different objects to test their senses. Teacher will explain to studnets that each grouo will get a chance to look at the stations around the classroom. The first station will contain objects that will make them use their sense of feel. The second station has objects that will focus on their sense of sight. The third station has objects that will make them use their sense of hearing. The fourth station will make them use their sense of smell. The fifth station will make them use their sense of tatse.
Step 3
Have students in their groups decide on a station and an object that they will have other studnets in other groups tries to identify. Studnets that are identifing objects can ask question like what sense is used to identify the object and the group can give them a clue.
Closure:
Have students give the names of the sense organs they used to identify objects.
