Sub-topic: Parts of a Plant
Duration: 45 minutes
Grade: Two (2)
Age: 7-8 years old

Total no. of Students: Twenty-five (25)
Date: Wednesday 12th November, 2008.
Specific Objectives:
Knowledge:
o Identify the different parts of a plant
o State the function of each part of the plant.
Skills:
o Build a structure of a plant using the parts of a plant.
o Draw a plant and label the different parts.
Attitude:
o Gain an appreciation for nature by seeing the plants in their natural habitat.
Materials: plants, plant templates, chart, flashcards
Previous Knowledge: Students have seen and observe the parts of a plant.
Introduction: Teacher and students will sing a song entitled “Mary had a garden of roses.” After the singing the song teacher will ask students this question “which part of the plant do the roses represent?” (The flower)
Activities:
Step 1: Teacher will place a plant to the front of the class. A student/s will be selected to come and identify and name the different parts of the plant.
Step 2: Teacher will place some plant templates to the front of the class. Four students will be selected to choose one part of the plant and they will stick them on an empty poster paper on the chalkboard. Teacher will have the other students observe to see if it was done correctly.
Step 3: Four students will be given flashcards with the names of the different parts of the plant. These students will state the name on the flashcard then stick it on the appropriate spot on the chart.
Step 4: Teacher and student will discuss the function of each part. Teacher will name a part of the plant and have students state its function in their own words. Then teacher will select students to complete a chart displaying the function of each part of the plant.
Competency task:
Students will complete a worksheet in which they are required to draw and label a picture showing the parts of each plant. They also have to write the function of each part of the plant.
