Introduction: teacher will read an example of an expository story to the students.
Presentation: Step1
After reading the passage, discus the content of the passage. Help students to arrive at a simple definition for expository which will be written on the board. Have students then read the definition that is on the chart and also the one on the board.
Step 2
Teacher will read the story again and this time teacher will have students make a check list from that story. Students will make simple rules of the do’s and don’ts when writing expository writing. Students will get in groups for this activity.
Step 3
Deduce some of the rules from the students. Write at least seven to eight rules on the board. Edit each rule as they as are given from the students. Ensure that each applies.
Step 4
Students will be given an empty manila to write the rules of the expository story. Students will place these charts on the wall so that they can always use the checklist when they are writing.
Closure: briefly review the definition of expository and also the checklist.
Application: Have students write their own simple definition of expository and one rule or check list when writing expository stories.
