OBJECTIVES:
1. Having observed video clips with different family types, students should be able to form a definition of the concept family.
2. Having viewed the picture with different family types, student should be able to identify and explain the family type seen in each view clip

GENERALIZATION: The family is a basic part of society
There are many different kinds of family in our
society and our world

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Students are a part of a family and have an
idea of what a family is
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Pictures showing family types, name strips, charts video clips of family types; display of families of different cultural groups.
TEACHING STRATEGIES: Deductive discovery, Discussion,
INTRODUCTION: A chart would be presented to the students. Have students observe the chart portraying different types of family. Through discussion, elicit from the student the definition of the term family to help devise generalizations. Elicit from the student words that best words to describe the pictures for e.g. sharing, caring, glad, joyful
DEVELOPMENT
Step 1
Have students compare and relate the family type displayed with their own family type for e.g. single, nuclear etc. ( This would help would help to bring out the concepts and bring to the surface the generalizations). Generalizations such as families exist in all areas of the world.
Step 2.
Elicit form the students some of the things they do with their family and share why they love doing it by giving examples. Some of what student suggest would be placed on the board for example picnics, going driving etc.
CONSOLIDATION: Review the lesson with the students. Teacher would
reinforce the generalizations that were formulated as the lesson progressed. Using a chart, the teacher would also review the meaning of family and different types of family.
APPLICATION: Students would place in groups and given a set of picture and name strips with the types of family and instructed to label the pictures with the correct name strips.
