Topic: Elements of a Story Sub Topic: Characters

Objectives: Students should be able to:-
Identify the characters in the story.
Explain what each character did in the story.
Draw the characters in the story
Materials: story book, overhead projector, flash cards
Previous Knowledge: Students have previously read the story “Jack and the Bean Stalk”.
Introduction
Teacher will have selected students give a brief summary of the story “Jack and the Bean Stalk”.
Procedure
Step 1
Teacher will mount a chart with the word Characters on the chalkboard. Students will discuss what the word means when it is related to a story. Teacher will then elicit some examples of characters in the previously read story.
Step 2
After familiarising students with the term characters, teacher will allow students to view the story on the overhead projector.
Step3
After viewing and listening to the story, students will observe the names of different characters on the chalkboard, teacher will select students to circle the names of the characters identified in the story and explain the role of each. Students will review the story on the projector to justify their responses.
Closure
Students will name their favourite characters in the story and name one thing that they did in the story.
