Materials: piece of paper with the letter S on it, sand, container, sea shell and plastic fishes.
Efficient Approaches: Teacher will sing a song. Children will then join in on the song as a transition to next activity of the day.
Strategies: Teacher lesson will be interactive among students and other teacher.
Objectives: Have students listen to a poem Recall details Identify the specific sound
Previous Knowledge: Students have knowledge of sounds and letters of the alphabet
Introduction: Students will be asked to look under the chair to find words that begin with the letter S. Ask students to try make the sound of that initial letter.
Developmental activities: Teacher will read the poem Sea Surprise first. Teacher will now indicate after the first reading that the students identify the particular sound being heard most. Students will share their interpretation of the poem. There interpretation will be guided by questions.
Culminating Activity: Have students look for all the words in the poem with an S sound.
Application Evaluation: Teacher will ask students to find objects around the classroom beginning with an S sound.
