Strategies:
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Knowledge: identify the specific sounds and words that produces alliteration
Skill: make inferences or predictions as to what the poem is about
Complete cloze poem using the chart with poem mounted on the board
Attitude: share their personal experiences as they relate to the poem
Previous Knowledge: Students are familiar with the Needles and they know what needles are used for.
Introduction: Present student with needles and thread. Allow them to observe and name the items.
Developmental Activity:
Step 1 Print the subject on the board, allowing student to choral read the subject from the board. Encourage them make inference as to what the title of the poem is about Record a few of the student responses on the chalk board. Inform student that they will check their prediction later in the lesson.
Step 2 Mount poem on the board. Teachers read poem for student to model correct expression intonation and enunciation. Encourage student to read poem on their own. Check inferences. Confirm the title of the poem.
Step 3 Through discussion, have student identify the similarities in the poem. Expected response, all the words begin with the same letter and have the same sound at the beginning. Have student give an example of the sound by reading a line in the poem
Culminating Activity:
Through discussion have students share their personal experience as it relates to the poem. Finally have students read the poem one last time while drumming out the sounds of the poem on their desk-top.
Application/Evaluation:
Student will be given a cloze poem, where they will fill in the missing words.
