Subject: Reading Topic: Comprehension Sub Topic: The Pigs Grade: Kindergarten Sex: 13 boys 11 girls Age: 5-6 years old Ability: Mixed Duration: 1:00-1:30 p.m.
Objectives: Students should be able to: 1. make predictions about the passage 2. make inferences about the passage 3. read sentences to make and clarify predictions
Strategy Employed: Directed Reading and Thinking Activity (D.R.T.A).
Previous Knowledge: Students have had some practice in making predictions and inferences. They are familiar with some of the words in the passage.
Instructional Materials: Charts with passage written and divided into different sections, picture to generate discussion.
Introduction: Display pictures with children, mango and pigs. Discuss the picture. Have student use the information seen in the picture to predict the passage’s title. Record students’ predictions on the chalkboard.
Procedure: Step (1) one: Exhibit chart with the title, “The Pigs”. Have students read the title then accept or reject their predictions. Step (2) two: Ask, “How many pigs do you think are in the story?” have students make their predictions. Expected answer: There are 3 pigs in the story. Step (3) three: Display chart with the answer. Have students read the sentence then accept or reject their predictions. Step (4) four: Repeat steps two and there with for the other section of the passage.
Closure: Lead students into reading the entire passage.
Application: Draw pictures to show the main characters in the story.
